Dear Subscriber Name, Happy Tuesday! It is a day late for the Monday newsletter because yesterday was the kick-off of back-to-school for teachers in my district. I definitely had one of those days where I looked up from my computer and it was 9:00 at night. My eyes couldn't take any more screens. Even with the shift to online learning, I am finding the management of to-do lists, small tasks, emails, and finding everyday inspirations...is getting a bit hard to juggle. Today was the first full day of school. My mindset entering today was to not expect perfection, and to be open to the little things that will brighten my day. There were times throughout the day that this outlook was easy. Times when students would chime in with great comments or when a colleague would reach out and check-in. There were also times when this was harder. Times when technology wanted to act up or freeze or when my email box opened and the number of unread messages made me want to close the whole thing completely. This week and next, I am holding on to the little things. The focus on the little things comes from my focus to go back to day-to-day planning in my journal for the months of August and September. From the September Plan With Me post I said, “However you find yourself slowing down this fall season, I hope you get a chance to focus in on your goals, get curious about your own learning, and indulge in small moments that make you happy. One way to do that is to focus on your journaling habits. You may be choosing to use a bullet journal system, keep a Passion Planner, or write down your thoughts in any notebook you have around the house.” While journaling or writing may not come easily to everyone, if you are having a hard time with this back-to-school fall season, I would urge you to maybe not call it journaling. Call it instead finding small moments in your day that matter. Some of my on purpose ways to focus in on small things that matter and this week’s journal prompts: “My ideal self is…"(looks like, sounds like, acts like) “My perfect day would be…” “My favorite season is…” “My favorite scent is…” and “It makes me think about…” “I get excited thinking about…” “I feel joy when…”
Brew some coffee or tea, grab a pen or your computer, cozy up with a blanket, and write. Happy reading and writing, Stephanie P.S.
